Match Report: VCF Mestalla go through to Premier League International Cup quarter-finals with victory over Blackburn U21 (0-2)
VCF Mestalla continue their purple patch with tne Premier League International Cup after edging Blackburn Rovers U21 by 0-1 scoreline.
Miguel Ángel Angulo fielded the same lineup as in previous matchdays. VCF Mestalla were off to a perfect start thanks to a fine strike by Vicente Esquerdo from outside the box in the early goings of the first period.
VCF Mestalla came close to doubling their lead through Mario and Dario who could quite latch onto the ball.
Blackburn Rovers FC U21 were denied by the post and then by Charly who pulled off two fine stops to keep the scoreline at 0-1 over the half-hour mark.
The first half finished 0-1 in Lancashire.
VCF Mestalla doubled their advantage through a Mario Dominguez strike who collected the rebound and turned the ball home following a long range effort from Carlos Alemán since joining the team in January.
Format
The 24 participating clubs (Liverpool FC, Manchester United, Arsenal FC, FC Porto, VLF Wolsburg, Paris Saint Germain or PSV Eindhoven among others) are divided into three groups of eight teams to complete a first phase with matches against Premier League teams. The top two in each group and the two best third-placed teams qualify for the knockout stages.

With this victory VCF Mestalla have now gone 11 consecutive matches without defeat, including Premier League International Cup and Segunda RFEF Group III matches, where the reserve team currently occupy third place in the standings.
VCF Mestalla's next fixture will be on Sunday at 11:00 h against SD Formentera, again away from home.
